STEP 1 - Identify your target market
The first step is to identify your target market. Who are your customers? what are their interests? What are their pain points in marketing? We can take this information and we can define a buyer persona to market to. This is the most important and critical step in the process and the most overlooked. To define your buyer personas you can use these techniques:
Interview your current and past customers
Start a poll with these questions
STEP 2 - Start a blog
The next step is to start a blog. The purpose of the blog is to answer questions your buyer personas are asking online. For example, I’m a female age 30 to 55 who owns a small boutique store. I am struggling with understanding how the new internet marketing standards work. I don’t know how to market my products online through my website.
This is one of my buyer personas. I’ve created this post on my blog to help answer those questions.
STEP 3 - Set up a blog schedule
Once you have your blog up and running make sure you set up a consistent number of blog posts over time. I recommend a minimum of 2 per month but it’s best to start out at once a week. The most important thing is to remain consistent. This is critical for search engines that want to deliver the best content for searchers. Even when it seems nobody is reading your blog you just need to keep going.
STEP 4 - Research your topics
Before you create a blog post make sure you identify the topic. The topic should be focused on a specific set of words called “keywords”. You should optimize the blog post for this keyword. There are advanced tools to find the best traffic for keywords but we won’t go into that at this time. You would need help from an expert to achieve this task.
STEP 5 - Write the post
Get inspired! Be remarkable! Write about your business and passion. Spend time doing reseach on your topic and see what others are saying about it. DON'T COPY!
STEP 6 - Optimize your post
This is a little more complicated. There are ways to optimize the blog post for search engines. This takes a little time to learn and find the right tools. We can help in this particular area but it really only takes a few hours of instruction. You can also follow this guide:
STEP 7 - Share your post
Once you have your post published then you need to share it through your social networks. I manage the top 5 but you may only need 2 or 3. Start with Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, and add others as necessary. Create a link from your social media account back to your blog post. We want to get our content shared and linked back to your website for search engine optimization.
Conclusion
The best part of all of this is that it's great for SEO. Search engines love fresh content that is original and provides information for those searching online.
This will create more traffic that is targeted to your buyer personas. I see so many business owners get excited about lots of traffic to their website but it’s not the right kind of traffic. You want to attract potential buyers not anyone else.
