stop worrying about seoObsessed is what seems to happen when users focus on SEO.  After working in the industry for years we've seen a gradual decrease in results.  Lately, we have been telling clients to stop worrying about search engine optimization and focus on Internet Marketing as a whole.

HUH? What about SERP? (Search Engine Results Pages) What about getting high placements for keywords???

Many times after performing a lot of on-site and off-site SEO we see some traffic increases but not a lot of new customers.  Why is that?  Well the first time we started seeing it we were baffled as well.  It should be obvious but once we looked closer we started to see why.  Here are 5 reasons:

1. Social media is a resource for information.

We all use social media as a tool to find information.  This is because we trust our friends more than we trust the internet.

2. Users already have their bookmarks and favorites.

This means the quality of the visitors is low.  Most visitors are not engaged enough and not necessarily looking for your product or service.

3. People are searching for more long tail keywords.

Long tail means more that 2 or 3 keywords and such as "dentist who specializes in gold crowns in {my town}".  These require a different method to get placed higher on search engines.

4. Google algorithms are changing rapidly.

So you hire an SEO expert to analyze some keywords, perform on-site optimization and link building, then 4 months later your rankings are down again.  This is quickly becoming a bad investment for most small businesses.

5. Internet marketing tactics are more effective.

There is a new age emerging that is focused more on attracting visitors via social media and engaging for conversions to leads.  SEO is just a part of this process.

So what should you do?  Focus on your marketing as a whole.  Work on generating better content for your customers rather than higher rankings.

There is a very specific process that has been design to optimize your efforts to get more business from the internet.
