If you are like most business owners, you opened a business to sell a product or service and digital marketing is something you know you should do but don’t really understand. You may be wondering why you keep hearing about content marketing or why blogging is good for SEO? I can tell you that as someone who's not really a copywriter, I didn't fully understand the connection until recently.

Why is SEO and Content Marketing Important? Why is Blogging Good for SEO?

Here are 3 ways that SEO and content marketing are connected:

  1. Adding pages adds more credibility

When Google assesses your website, it analyzes a couple of things to determine what your site is about and how to rank it in search engine results for different search terms. One of the factors that Google looks for is how many pages are on the website. When you create a blog, each time you publish a new post, another page is added to your website. The more you blog, the more pages you create, which gives your website more authority with Google on a given set of topics.

  1. People search for business specifics

Another reason that blogging is good for SEO is that it can help your website show up in search results for things your potential clients or customers are looking for. Imagine you are a potential client out there looking for your business or what your business has to offer. What questions or search queries would you put into the search bar to find a business like yours? For example, you might search for “best digital marketing company Bellingham.” You will want to identify the keywords that your potential customers are using through keyword research and be sure to include at least one of them in your posts. Note that you never want to get in the habit of “keyword stuffing.” Your content should flow naturally and provide genuinely useful and/or entertaining information for your intended audience.

  1. Searchers use long tail keywords

People are searching differently now. They are searching for information using a long string of words rather than simple searches of two or three words. A search using a long string of words is called "long tail keywords" and we create posts to show up for those keywords. It's critical that your blog posts are optimized:

The rules of blogging are very specific but you can always get started and then learn how to optimize your posts once they are ready. With practice you will learn to be more effective so don’t hesitate to start your blog today!
